To celebrate the college’s centenary, the Maris Stella College OBA UK chose to mark this milestone by giving back to those in need. The association donated 100 boxes of dry food rations to struggling families, spending LKR 1 million (approximately £2,500) to ensure each box contained healthy, nutritious items.
Elivitiya Primary School in the Puttalam district was selected for this project. Located in the rural area of Kumarakattuwa, the school provides primary education to 70 pupils. Many families in the area have been hit hard by the ongoing economic crisis, making it difficult to meet even basic daily needs.
On 25th November 2022, Br. Noel Fonseka distributed 70 food boxes to families at the school. The remaining 30 boxes were handed to the Maris Stella College principal for distribution among families in need within the school community and surrounding areas.
A fitting tribute to 100 years of Maris Stella, honoring the past by building a better future for those who need it most.
