Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Colombo, established in 1895, is Sri Lanka’s premier children’s hospital. Its operations depend heavily on government grants and private donations, but in recent years funding has become increasingly difficult.
The country’s shortage of foreign reserves has forced the government to restrict imports, including essential medicines and food commodities. This has led to a critical shortage of life-saving drugs across hospitals nationwide, with children’s healthcare particularly affected.
In response, the Maris Stella College OBA UK donated medicines worth LKR 1 million (approximately £2,500) to Lady Ridgeway Hospital. The donation was formally handed over by the college Principal, Br. Sunanda Alwis, on 3rd November 2022.
This contribution reflects the OBA’s dedication to supporting healthcare for the most vulnerable, ensuring that children in Sri Lanka continue to receive the treatment they need.
